Infinite availability

Our internet supplier was celebrating 35 years and had a birthday bash at Philthy McNastys. We said, we can go and get something to eat. They also had a mini trade show there. The sales rep from one of their cable channel suppliers was there. We stopped to get our card filled in so we could enter the draw.

We told him we don't watch much TV. He said, "I don't watch much television either, but I like to have it available, so I have a choice." Later I realized that the cable companies (and the satellite companies) are really selling availability. How many channels are you going to watch at a time?

Only one (maybe 2) at a time, but with our super gold premium platinum hd package you can choose from 287 channels. One of the features was an "on demand" package.

That sounded good. You can watch what you want, when you want.

When will they start to charge for cable like long distance telephone. So much a minute. Watch a lot of TV, pay more. Watch only a little pay less. And if you watch after midnight, you get discounted rates. Pick a channel from the station in the next town, pay local rates. Watch the foreign language program from around the world, pay long distance rates.

I could go for that!

(I wonder if the salesman was trained to say what he said?)
Or am I just too stubborn to admit it.

Tree Peony

All of a sudden, our tree Peony is in full bloom. What a magnificent set of flowers this year. Last week it was just leaves.

It is amazing how much this plant has grown in the 10 years we have had it. Just a couple of shoots, but each year it gets bigger.

Must have it in the right spot. A bit of protection from the house, partial shade from the redbud.

Did you know cactus grows in Hagersville? and lives through the winter, in my driveway gravel, and was buried under the snow?

Aisle of View

Springtime is in the air. Our garden is starting to blossom in colour. Here is the pathway to the back yard. This is the way in to see a lot of the sights. It's an Aisle of View.

It visually leads to an island on the other side of the lawn. In this bed are a couple of hicks yews. This is an Isle of Yew. If you sit on the aluminum bench here, it is also an Isle of View.
The rhubarb is in full "bloom"- great big lush leaves. Soon to be in a pie.
