Fresh Fruit

http://fecc812xaj-010nbu2kf43vruo.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=KOG072409We are truly fortunate to live in the Golden Horseshoe- that area at the western end of Lake Ontario that encompasses Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara Falls. The area between Hamilton and Niagara Falls is one of the best area climate and soil wise for growing a wide variety of delicious fruit. Especially in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area is where you will find a number of wine growers.

As we head into this summer season, I like to take a short drive into Winona. Winona is the home of the Winona Peach Festival in August. While Winona is now officially part of the City of Hamilton, many people still like to think of that community as Winona.
I especially like fresh Apricots. When I was a lad growing up in Greensville, Ontario, we had an Apricot tree right by the corner of the driveway. It always seemed to have at least a few Apricots for us to savour.

Today, I took that short drive to one of the many fruit stands that are common along Highway 8 travelling east from Stoney Creek to Winona.

Apricot season is just starting. And we are in the height of the sweet cherry season. Getting local fresh fruit in season is the way it was meant to be. The taste is not hurried, nor artificially induced, nor artificially delayed to permit shipping.

Got to work on my own orchard- there's a job for the future. Fresh Apricots from home would be even better.

Or maybe start a vineyard with grapes.
