The first realization that we were actually heading to the warm climes was when the AirCanada pilot announced that we would be arriving in Honolulu in so many hours and the expected temperature at 10 pm was 82 degrees fahrenheit. In Vancouver it was only 10 degrees Celsius. Then as we were walking through the airport to the luggage pickup, we look to the right to see the tarmac outside, and the planes etc. Then you realize that hey, that's not a window, it's just a huge opening in the wall. It felt as if you could almost reach outside and touch the palm trees.
Getting into Honolulu at 1020 pm Hawaii time meant it was 420 am Eastern time. So we managed to fall asleep easily, but were up early.
I guess Hawaii gets a lot of visitors from Japan. There is a channel on the Hotel TV specifically for Japanese tourists and the Emergency direction sign on the hotel room door is in English and Japanese.
