Saturday Canyon

Waimea Canyon is a spectacular canyon cut into the lava by 3 rivers. The views of the reddish lava remind one of the Kauai’s version of the Grand Canyon.

In the Koke’e State Park we came upon the 19^th Annual Festival honoring Queen Emma’s hike in 1871 into Kauai’s beautiful mountains with an entourage of her friends. There was a horseback re-enactment followed by a number of presentations hula dancers who chant as a gift to the queen.
